Can Anyone Receive Cosmetic Dentistry?
Just about! Cosmetic dentistry combines many kinds of services, and each one can be tailored to meet the unique needs of your smile. While we don’t recommend most cosmetic procedures for infants or young children, some treatments that are considered aesthetically-pleasing are perfectly safe for growing smiles.
Dental damage and developing cavities are two of the most common oral health issues children face. Dr. Kaur offers body-safe composite bonding, fillings, and crowns to your child’s needs for protecting their young teeth and future oral health.
For teen smiles experiencing impacted wisdom teeth, gentle tooth extraction can be combined with Nitrous Oxide sedation to ensure maximized comfort and relaxation during this procedure. We can also tailor our professional teeth whitening and Invisalign® orthodontics solutions for those looking to enhance their smile before a dance, yearbook picture, or important interview.
Adults and seniors are often affected by periodontal (gum) disease. At our office, Dr. Kaur offers innovative and effective treatment using dental lasers. This advanced technology can also help rejuvenate gum tissues affected by recession and infection or aesthetically contour gum tissue with crown lengthening. Other cosmetic services often tailored to adult smiles include porcelain veneers and dental implant restorations such as crowns, fixed bridges, full dentures, and partial dentures.
Professional Teeth Whitening
Stained teeth or discolored enamel is one of the most common reasons why individuals seek cosmetic dental care. With professional teeth whitening, you have the benefit of regaining the lost brilliance of your smile through convenient and effective methods that are entirely tailored to fit your needs and schedule.
Years’ worth of enamel discoloration can be lifted in as little time as an hour, providing you the radiant results you deserve with the confidence needed to show off your smile during any social event, job interview, or everyday life.
Is Professional Teeth Whitening Worth it?
While most over-the-counter whitening treatments may have the same active ingredient as professional whitening, the potency is much lower, delivering results that are often short-lived. This will likely contribute to you having to lighten more frequently with unreliable solutions that can negatively affect and damage your enamel.
While over-the-counter treatments may be suitable for slight touch-ups, for safe and effective whitening that lasts, professional procedures are the better choice.
What Are My Teeth Whitening Options?
Our El Dorado office provides professional-grade teeth whitening in two convenient ways. In-office, or chairside whitening, delivers powerful results, often in a single appointment, while our take-home whitening kits allow you to brighten your smile in the comfort of your home and at your own pace.
For our chairside whitening procedures, we use the highest solution of bleaching gel for prompt, lasting results that are as safe as they are beautiful. Dr. Kaur applies the whitening solution to the surfaces of your teeth efficiently and evenly once she’s made sure your lips and gum tissue are protected.
Our skilled and highly-trained professionals monitor your treatment time closely to help minimize tooth sensitivity and to ensure your desired results are achieved.
Your custom teeth whitening kits will brighten the shade of your smile from the comfort of your home. Each kit comes with a custom-designed tray that is crafted from a precise impression of your smile to ensure comfort and that your results are evenly dispersed throughout.
The only in-office appointments required are for taking your smile impressions, discussing your ideal shade with our dentist, and obtaining new whitening gel or if you need to replace your custom trays.
Will My Teeth Stay White?
While teeth whitening performed by licensed professionals tend to last much longer than average, over-the-counter products, results can begin to diminish over time.
Below are seven tips from our expert for helping keep your teeth whiter, longer!
- Brush twice daily, using an approved whitening toothpaste once or twice a week.
- Floss at least once a day.
- Drink and swish with water after every meal.
- Limit stain-causing foods and drinks like coffee, red wine, dark berries, and tomato sauces.
- Avoid using tobacco and smoking.
- Stay constant with your dental cleanings every six months!
- Use professional take-home whitening kits for touch-ups.
Porcelain Veneers & LUMINEERS
While teeth whitening is an excellent solution for surface staining, veneers and LUMINEERS help with more problematic staining. They can improve smiles with deeper discoloration, typically caused by injury, trauma, prior dental procedures, or if certain medications are staining the enamel.
Veneers and non-prep LUMINEERS are popular cosmetic treatments. These thin, yet incredibly durable porcelain shells are applied to the surfaces of teeth. They can cover many aesthetic concerns including minor chips, cracks, gaps in between teeth, weak or worn enamel, and can even hide mild forms of tooth misalignment.
How They’re Alike
Both veneer systems are applied to your front teeth effectively and improve your smile dramatically while looking completely natural. Dr. Kaur will examine your smile during your initial appointment. Digital X-rays and impressions are taken to determine which veneer treatment will be suited to your needs.
How They Differ
It’s the manner of preparation or non-preparation that sets the two veneers systems apart. With traditional veneers, moderate tooth preparation is required to avoid unnatural or bulky looking results. Most individuals will require some form of sedation or local anesthetic and wear temporary veneers while their permanent ones are being fabricated in a lab.
LUMINEERS® are thinner, non-prep veneers, meaning, they can be applied almost immediately to the smile. About the thickness of a contact lens, LUMINEERS are bonded to teeth efficiently. Our dentist will still need to make some preparations to natural enamel; however, a local anesthetic isn’t often needed.
Repairing and Enhancing Your Smile with Bonding, Fillings, Inlays, and Onlays
Composite bonding, fillings, and porcelain inlays and onlays are often used to address various forms of dental issues while enhancing appeal. We’ll analyze your dental concerns, damage, along with the natural shape, contours, and shade of your teeth to determine the best cosmetic treatment for you depending on your specific needs.
Continue reading below to discover each option, their benefits, and considerations for treatment.
White, Composite Bonding is a fast, minimally invasive and often affordable cosmetic technique in which tooth-colored composite resin is shaped and molded to your teeth to give the appearance of a straighter, whiter smile.
With composite bonding:
- Mild chips and cracks are repaired.
- Worn, uneven, or oddly-shaped enamel is improved.
- Small dental gaps and minor discoloration can be reduced.
- Can be completed in one appointment.
- Isn’t ideal for correcting crooked teeth due to an over- or underbite.
Composite, White Fillings are often ideal for restoring a natural appearance to a damaged, worn, or previously infected smile.
We’ll first choose the shade of composite that’s best for your smile and helps compliment your skin tone and hair color. Once all decay is removed, and the extent of damage is determined, our dentist will either fill the affected areas with the composite material or apply it directly to your tooth, shaping and polishing it mimics the natural feel and appeal of your teeth.
With composite fillings:
- Damage from an accident, injury, wear, clenching, and grinding is repaired.
- Fill a small or large cavity.
- Protect a tooth from further harm or infection.
- Preserve a tooth that still has most of its natural structure
- Can be performed in a single office visit.
Porcelain Inlays and Onlays can be used to replace old, metal fillings or to repair larger cavities resulting in a more natural, appealing aesthetic. They’re customized and shaped inserts that fit ideally in the places of previous damage for durable repair. They’re securely bonded to prevent further decay and support the surrounding tooth structure.
With porcelain inlays and onlays:
- Can be colored perfectly to match the existing tooth structure.
- Feel, function, and look just like your natural teeth when placed correctly.
- Are stain resistant.
- Are very strong and once bonded, add significant strength to a decayed tooth.
- Are very durable and made to last when properly cared for.
If the damage is more extensive than an inlay or onlay can correct, crowns are used to preserve as much natural tooth possible.
Rejuvenating Smiles with Extensive Damage or Tooth Loss
Dental implants are an ideal solution for rebuilding smiles suffering from trauma, damage, and tooth loss by replacing one to all teeth lost. Because dental implants act as artificial tooth roots once surgically placed in the jawbone, they help reestablish strength, appeal, and a proper bite to your smile once more.
When your crown, bridge, full denture, or partial denture is supported by implants, they look entirely natural, creating an attractive appearance once more. This also improves providing long-lasting solutions for problems with eating, speaking, and digestion.
While our cosmetic dentist doesn’t place implants, she offers beautiful, lifelike restorations to complete your implant process. She can also extract severely damaged or infected teeth gently and precisely to help increase your chances at successful implant placement with a bone graft.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign is a system of clear aligners that gently straighten your teeth. Invisalign trays are practically invisible, entirely removable, and will not disrupt your diet or daily routine. These clear braces align your smile by gently shifting teeth into ideal position. You’ll be given a series of aligners that are changed out every two weeks. With each new set, your smile gradually becomes straighter.
While Invisalign is more convenient then traditional orthodontics, you are expected to wear you clear trays for 22 hours per day, with your aligners only being removed for eating and during oral hygiene routines.
Because of Invisalign’s stricter treatment, it’s often recommended for responsible teens and adults who will comply with wearing their aligners properly. Ideal candidates for clear aligners must also be in good oral health.
